This post is for the Aud Sentiments Challenge #164 “Fall Colours”. We are sponsored by the Doodle Pantry for this challenge. If you want to participate head over to the Aud Sentiments Challenge Blog. You have just under two weeks to complete the challenge!
For my card I created a fall coloured shaker card. Using “Silly Critters” from Doodle Pantry, I manipulated my image in Microsoft word, and I placed the sentiment over the digital paper. The digital paper is also from Doodle Pantry from the “Hay Bale” Digital set. I love how this turned out, instead of just having my sentiment on a plain white background.
To create my border around my shaker, I used these nesting dies from Spellbinders “Pierced Rectangles”. I used the 3 largest sizes and arranged them on my cardstock to be evenly spaced and taped them down. I ran this through my Cuttlebug die cut machine.
This is the border that I was left with.
After I had manipulated my image in Microsoft word, I printed it onto cardstock, and I am cutting it with the largest die that I had previously used for my border. This way it will all be exactly the same size on the card.
To make my shaker window have some dimension, and instead of using the foam tape which I usually used, I went with a one sided adhesive foam sheet which I cut down with the exact same dies as with the brown border. As you can see in the photo, I used the brown border to line up my dies so that it would be exact underneath and no white foam would be peeking out. The foam is usually flattened after you put it through the die cut machine, so I left the dies taped to the foam for a few hours to allow the foam to pop back into place, and continued with my card then.
I also cut a piece of clear acetate to fit behind my brown border, and this would be the clear shaker window which would keep all my sequins inside the card. These are the pieces that I was left with to put the card together. The owl used here is from Cute Critters (Doodle Pantry), and I used there coloured image to save time. I cut the little owl out myself and wanted to keep a white border around him.
The clear piece of acetate has now been glued onto the back of the brown border.
I used a glue runner, and applied glue around my pretty digital paper edges to lay the white foam overtop. I made sure my adhesive side of my foam was facing up, since I was going to use this side to attach to the top window layer of my card. I poured my different coloured sequins inside the foam area, and glued certain sequins inside so they wouldn’t all fall to the bottom of the card. I especially glued a whole bunch of sequins above my sentiment, because I wouldn’t have wanted the sentiment to be covered up by sequins. Once my glued sequins was dry, I lifted the tape covering the adhesive foam, and placed my brown border/clear window overtop, being as careful as I could be that all the edges lined up.
Now all that was left was to put my little owl friend onto the front. I wanted him to stand out a little bit, so I put some adhesive foam to the back of him, and placed him on my card.
Lastly I glued the shaker panel onto a top folding card base which measured 5.5 by 4.25 inches. This is a look at my final card!
