Happy Mothers Day

with No Comments

Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there! It has been a really long time since I have been able to craft. I felt like I had to make sure the card my mom got this year was handmade. A few weeks ago, my mom and I took down all the wallpaper in her house. It was beautiful stuff, so I saved some of it, and thought I could make some cool cards with it. What better card to use it for than a Mothers Day card.

Firstly, I cut the wallpaper to 5.5″ x 4.25″, and the black cardstock as the card base was cut to 11″ x 4.25″. Once the card base was folded in half, the wallpaper was glued to the front.

I thought this card looked a little plain just how it was, so I thought I would add a ‘shaker’ aspect to it. I die cut a hole in the center of the wallpaper, but not through both sides of the card base. I cut some craft foam to fit with my 5.5″ x 4.25″ card front, and die cut the hole through that in the same spot.

I cut a piece of clear acetate to fit behind the whole perfectly. Once I had the clear acetate glued behind the hole on the cardstock, the foam piece was glued on top.

This is the fun part where you can choose the sparkly bits that go in the middle of the card. I grabbed all of the gold sequins and confetti I had and put it on the clear acetate. Now you have to make sure that you seal all of those sequins in the card by layering lots of glue around the circle (on top of the foam). I cut a piece of black cardstock to fit on top of the foam and sequins so you did not see any white foam.

Once all of this was done, the front still seemed like it needed something, so I added a little sentiment down at the bottom. I got the gold lettering by stamping with versamark ink, and pouring embossing powder over it, and heating it up. Once this little piece was added to the card it just needed more sequins!

So cool that you can use anything really to decorate your cards! I love that I was able to use some of this wallpaper, so now my mom can keep a little bit of the wallpaper around, without having it up on the wall.

Here are a few other cards I made with the other wallpaper in our house! Aren’t the patterns great!!!

Congratulations Baby Card

So it seems like everybody is having babies in my group of friends, so it was about time I started making some baby cards. I will admit this card started off in one direction, and it looked horrible and I had to scrap that idea and move on to something else. That just seems to happen all the time. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

So this is the adorable stamp set I used today, Altenew Baby Zoo, which I used with the coordinating die set. These are some pretty cool layering stamps.

To start, I stamped the large base image for all three animals in one colour, and then I stamped the top layer with the details in a different, darker colour. I had to play around to find the colour I liked best for each one.

In this photo I have the clear giraffe and lion stamp laying on top of my paper exactly where I will want to stamp the image. Once I pick up my stamp with my MISTI tool, I then add the colour to each stamp that I want, and press down on my paper.

I then used my Cuttlebug and die cut the animals out. The elephant stamp and the metal die cut didn’t quite match up, so I’m not too happy with how that little guy turned out, but the other animals look pretty good I think! Here is a photo of how I ran it through my die cut machine.

These are the colours that I ended up going with for the zoo animals. Like I said I played around until I got the colours that I liked best. This was really the most time consuming part of the card. After the animals were completed, I chose some fun background paper, cut that to fit on top of my black scalloped card front, and glued everything down. The sentiment I heat embossed onto black cardstock with Wow opaque white embossing powder.

Lastly I sparkled it up with some sequins!

This is the end result! I hope my friend likes this one!

Cute birthday cards!

These two cards were made for two little girls, and I wanted to make them similar since the little girls are twins, but not too similar so that they were getting the same card.

The first thing I did was create cute characters for each card. I used a cute elephant from the Wplus9 “Unforgettable” stamp set, and a little kitty from My Favorite Things “I Knead You” stamp set. I coloured them with my Spectrum Noir markers and die cut them. Next I stamped my birthday sentiments, in Ranger Clear Embossing Ink, and used Wow Gold embossing powder. The sentiment on the banner is from Simon Says Stamp “Birthday Celebration” stamp set. The sentiment from the elephant card is from the “Unforgettable” set from Wplus9. For the cat card I made a banner so that it looked like the cat was holding it up, and I used the banner from Mama Elephant “Basic” die set.  The scallop border was also created with the scallop from this Mama Elephant “Basic” die set.

I made both of these to be fun birthday shaker cards! So I used some craft foam which had some adhesive on one side, and I die cut that with the top layer. I then cut out a circle from the center of the foam (using Simon Says Stamp “stitched circles” dies) and the top layer which would be where our sequins and confetti would go. Next I cut out a piece of clear acetate which would be the window holding the sequins in the card. I layered the acetate under our top cardstock layer, glued that down, then applied the foam piece and made sure that was glued down well.

On the card base, I blended some Ranger Distress Ink. Colours used were Seedless Preserves, Mustard Seed, and Picked Raspberry. Since I did not use a white card base, the colours turned out darker than expected. I also stamped a few hearts with Versamark ink and embossed it with Wow Gold embossing powder. Now the card was ready for the little confetti! I found this awesome confetti at Walmart! The confetti was placed on the card base right over where the hole would be. I then applied the glue to the back of the foam piece and placed that down over top of the card base.

Here is what the finished cards turned out to look like! The girls loved them!

Cute Cat Birthday Card!

with No Comments

I LOVE this card! It is so much fun, and bright and has the cutest kitten popping out of a box! What is not to love?

I started off die cutting a scalloped background in red 65 lb cardstock from Recollections, and then I cut out a stitched rectangle border in a bright orange  65 lb cardstock also from Recollections. I used my 3.25″ circle punch to punch out that white circle, and that was just regular printer paper.

Next I did my sentiment stamping, which is from Wplus9, and used Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and for the orange balloon I used ranger spiced marmalade distress ink. I stamped the kitty cat with Memento black ink and then used my matching dies to die cut around it. I coloured the little cat with spectrum alcohol markers.

To put it all together I used some foam tape behind the white circle, and behind the little cat. I then applied a few sequins and gems! I just love it, and I hope you do too! Thanks for checking it out.

Happy Easter Weekend!

So today I had some time to work with the march card kit from Simon Says Stamp! Better late than never.. since it is already easter weekend. This kit came with two pre-designed water colour card fronts, which I was able to have some fun with! I tried out the new yellow Distress Crayon which also came in the kit. I used the yellow crayon for the little chick, and used some of the other water colours which I already had on hand from Michaels. This was the first time using the Distress Crayon, so I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out, but I think it looks great! It looks like the little chick has some feathers!

I die cut some a scallop border and a slightly larger one in yellow underneath, and glued these all together. I used some glossy accents over the chick to make him look more 3 dimensional, and added some yellow spring sequins  (which also came in this fun March kit)!

I had a lot of fun creating this card since it was totally experimenting with some new things. If you are interested in making cards, I definitely recommend the card kits from Simon Says Stamp, since they all contain virtually everything you need to make a whole bunch of awesome cards!
